Geboren in New Orleans und tief verwurzelt in der Blaxploitation-Ästhetik, war DJ White Hammer mehr als ein Produzent – er war eine Bewegung. Seine Musik war roh, hypnotisch und kompromisslos sinnlich. Sex Demon – Volume One versammelt ausgewählte Tracks aus seiner kultigen Tape-Serie, die bislang nur als Bootlegs unter Eingeweihten kursierte.
Diese Veröffentlichung bringt seinen dreckigen, glitzernden Groove zurück ins Rampenlicht – als Zeugnis einer Ära, in der Sound ein Akt der Befreiung war.

Interviewer: DJ White Hammer. Sex Demon. Black Hammer. Who the hell are you really?
White Hammer: (lacht) I’m the guy who plays basslines you can’t walk away from. You hear it in your hips before your brain even catches up. That’s who I am.
Interviewer: Your music has been called “the soundtrack to both the revolution and the bedroom.”
White Hammer: Damn right. I come from New Orleans. We sweat when we speak. My people were fighting on the streets while making love in the sheets. You think Marvin Gaye didn’t know what he was doing with Let’s Get It On? My stuff just had a little more Moog and a lot less shame.
Interviewer: You worked with some serious names—James Brown, Gwen McCrae, Betty Davis. What did they teach you?
White Hammer: James taught me discipline. Betty taught me how to growl. Gwen taught me how to breathe between notes. But the rest I learned in film studios at 3AM—editing reels of hips and heat, laying down grooves while actresses moaned into dead microphones. That’s where I found my real rhythm.
Interviewer: What is SEX DEMON to you? A movie? An album? A myth?
White Hammer: All of the above. It started as a low-budget erotic film, turned into an audio experiment, then became a state of mind. You play SEX DEMON, you feel something. Shame, lust, freedom—it’s all part of the groove. That’s what I wanted.
Interviewer: Is funk political?
White Hammer: Always. A bassline can say more than a preacher on Sunday. My grooves were built for black bodies, for pleasure, for defiance. You think a porn groove can’t be revolutionary? Listen again.
Interviewer: What do you want to be remembered for?
White Hammer: That when the world burned and moaned, I gave it a beat to move to.
